Atsumi information
Atsumi is located on the Japan Sea, bordering Niigata Prefecture to the south and has a population of 12,000, but it contains 29 different village areas ranging from ocean communities to small clusters of houses up in the mountains.
Atsumi is renowned as one of the premier hot spring resorts and spectacular mountain and coastal scenery.
Atsumi is about 10 square kilometers in area and about 135 kilometers from Yamagata City , our prefectural capital. In July the water and air temperature ranges from 25~30 degrees Celsius. It's rather hot and humid. Please keep this in mind when packing.
The International and Japan FJ Organization, the Japan and Yamagata Sailing Federation, the Executive Committee of 2001 FJ World Championship takes pleasure in inviting you to participate in the 2001 FJ World Championship

The championship will be held from July 17 to July 23, 2001. The venue will be in Yamagata, Japan at Atsumi Town's Nezugaseki Marina facilities sailing on the waters of Nezugaseki Bay.

8. Rules
All races will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing RRS(2001-2004), the Championship rules of the International FJ Organization (IFJO), this Notice of Race (except as amended by the sailing instructions) and the sailing instructions.

9. Category
The regatta is designated Category C.

Depending on certain factors such as the weather, a situation may arise where the listed schedule or Race Area may be modified and up to three races may be held in one day, in accordance with the IFJO Championship Rules.



11. Eligibility for Participation
11.1) A participant must be a member of the FJ Class Organization or a member of The Sailing Federation in his or her respective country for the year 2001

11.2) A participant must be licensed by his or her respective country’s FJ Organization, or in the case that the country does not have an FJ Organization, by the country’s Sailing Federation.

11.3) Participants of age eighteen (18) years and under are required to submit parental or guardian’s signature and be accompanied by an adult. However, an adult is permitted to accompany more than one participant.

11.4) No more than two (2) participants may be registered per (1) boat.

11.5) Participants must have completed the designated participant application forms and procedures.

12. Measurement
All yachts shall undergo measurement of hulls, spars and sails, as well as equipment checks. Only approved equipment may be used during the races. When a boat number differs from a sail number, both measurement certificates are required.

13. Chartered Boats
If desired, chartered boats and sails will be rented to participants from outside Japan using a separate application form. However, such rentals are limited to those who accept the following terms.

13.1) The payment of a charter fee of eight thousand (8,000) yen in Japanese currency at the reception desk.

13.2) Modification of the boat as well as the moving or altering of the rigging is prohibited.

13.3) Chartered boats will be chosen by a random drawing to be held by an Executive committee member and cannot be selected by the participant’s preference.

13.4) In the case of the participant using his or her own sails, a certificate of
measurement must be submitted for the boat that is registered with that
sail’s identification number.

13.5) The chartered boat and rig rented by the Executive Committee must be inspected, managed, preserved, and maintained by the hirer.


14. Sailing Instruction
Instructions will be distributed at the time of the registration on July 17th and 18th.

15. Constitution of the Championship
8 races are scheduled, of which 6 races constitute a series.
However, in situations where 6 races cannot be completed for reasons such as the weather, it is possible, with approval from the IFJO Council, to consider the competition to be complete at the completion of the 4th race.

16. International Jury
1) An International Jury will be appointed. The decisions of the International Jury are final. No appeals are possible.
2) In this regatta, the red flag of Rule 61.1 system (A), The Racing Rules of Sailing RRS (1997~2000) is due to be applied. All competitors are requested to carry a red flag.

17. Scoring
The Low Point scoring system, Appendix 4.1, will apply.
Also Appendix A4.2, A5, A6, A8.1, A8.2 will apply.

18. Safety
1) All boats must carry an anchor according to the Class Rule 20-5.
2) Competitors may use the synthetic painters in the Class Rule 20-3 as an anchor rope.
3) All competitors are required to wear life-jackets from the time they leave the harbor and until they return.

19. Prizes
1) Prizes will be awarded to the overall first through sixth placed finishers.
2) There will also be a prize for the winner of each individual race.

20. Entry Fee
Entry fee will be ¥20,000, -per boat.
Entry fee is to be paid in Japanese Currency (cash only) at the time of the registration.

22. Responsibility
Competitors take part in the Championship at their own risk.
The International and Japan FJ Organization, the Japan and Yamagata Sailing Federation, their officers and volunteers do not accept any liability for loss of life or damage caused or arising out of the 2001 International FJ Class World Championship.

23. Initiation of Doping Control
The race committee may at any time initiate medical testing to control doping within its own jurisdiction or for competitors under its jurisdiction.

24. Accommodation and Lunch
The Executive Committee offer facilities for staying via lodging notes on another sheet. The lunch during the time of the Championship will be prepared by the Executive Committee.
